Affordable AR Smart Glasses – Making AR Accessible to Everyone

Our Vision

We aim to revolutionize augmented reality (AR) by making lightweight, affordable, and high-quality smart glasses accessible to everyone. Current AR glasses are expensive due to costly optical components like waveguide lenses and projectors. Our goal is to develop our own waveguide technology and projectors at a significantly lower cost while maintaining high performance.

How We Are Making Waveguide Lenses Affordable

Waveguide lenses are the core of AR smart glasses, but they are expensive due to complex manufacturing processes and reliance on proprietary technology. Our approach to making them affordable includes:

1. 3D Printing and Injection Molding – Instead of high-cost fabrication, we will develop a hybrid manufacturing process that includes precision 3D printing for prototyping and injection molding for mass production.

2. Custom Optical Design – Using computational design techniques, we can optimize light distribution to achieve high transparency and brightness while using cheaper raw materials.

3. Local Manufacturing – We will collaborate with Indian optics and polymer manufacturers to reduce import costs and ensure scalability.

4. Open-Source Waveguide Development – By leveraging open-source hardware designs and refining our own polymer-based waveguides, we can reduce R&D costs.

Developing Our Own Waveguide Projectors

Waveguide projectors (light engines) are another expensive component in AR glasses. We plan to develop our own using:

1. Micro-LED & LCOS Display Technology – Instead of using high-cost OLED micro-displays, we will use affordable micro-LEDs or LCOS panels to achieve a bright and efficient projection system.

2. Custom Optics & Reflectors – We will design our own lens systems to maximize light efficiency, reducing power consumption and increasing clarity.

3. Low-Power Processing – Our goal is to integrate an efficient AI processor that can handle AR tasks without requiring high-end chips, keeping costs low.

Making It Affordable

By combining low-cost waveguide lenses, in-house projectors, and efficient design, we estimate our smart glasses will cost under ₹15,000 for the end user—far cheaper than existing AR glasses priced at ₹50,000+.

Roadmap – How We Will Build This Project
